Vietnam’s coffee industry

Vietnam is the world’s largest producer of robusta coffee and a key supplier to global instant and commercial coffee markets.

The industry is centred in the Central Highlands, where smallholder farmers dominate production and exports are a major source of foreign exchange.

Vietnam’s coffee sector is highly exposed to global price cycles, weather conditions and input costs such as fertiliser and logistics.

In recent years, the industry has sought to move up the value chain through specialty coffee, processing and branding, though robusta still accounts for the vast majority of output.
