Vietnam exports to USA down 28.45% February 2026 MoM / textiles and garments -22.05%, phones -23.21%

In February, Vietnam exported US$9,944 million worth of goods to the USA, down 28.45 percent over January, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

So far this year, Vietnam has exported US$23,842 million worth of goods to the USA.

Vietnam exported US$3,042.26 million worth of computers to the USA in February. This was down from US$3,789.92 million in January, a change of -19.73 percent.

It also exported US$1,509.51 million worth of machines, equipment, tools and instruments to the USA in February. This was down from US$2,325.08 million in January, a change of -35.08 percent.

Adding to that, Vietnam exported US$1,104.97 million worth of textiles and garments to the USA in February. This was down from US$1,417.56 million in January, a change of -22.05 percent.

It also exported US$798.71 million worth of phones to the USA in February. This was down from US$1,040.11 million in January, a change of -23.21 percent.

Vietnam trade with the USA

In February, Vietnam imported US$1,462.43 million worth of goods from the USA and exported US$9,943.63 million to the USA, for total trade worth US$11,406.06 million, and leaving a trade surplus of US$8,481.19 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and the USA has reached US$27,202 million, with Vietnam importing US$3,360 million worth of goods and exporting US$23,842 million worth of goods.

Boeing deals USA

Three Vietnamese airlines signed agreements to acquire nearly 100 aircraft from Boeing during a visit to Washington by Communist Party General Secretary To Lam.

Vietnam Airlines finalised a US$8 billion order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX jets, first announced in 2023.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways, backed by Sun Group, signed a US$22.5 billion agreement for 40 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, described as Vietnam’s largest wide-body aircraft order.

Low-cost carrier VietJet agreed to acquire six Boeing 737 aircraft through Griffin Global Asset Management in a US$965 million financing deal, ahead of Lam’s participation in US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” meeting.

Vietnam-USA trade relations

Vietnam and the United States normalised diplomatic relations in 1995, opening the way for rapidly expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The 2000 Bilateral Trade Agreement significantly reduced tariffs and improved market access, helping transform the United States into one of Vietnam’s largest export markets.

Trade ties deepened further after Vietnam joined the World Trade Organisation in 2007 and through subsequent agreements on trade, investment and regulatory cooperation.

The two countries elevated relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023, reinforcing collaboration across supply chains, technology and high-value manufacturing sectors.
