Vietnam-Germany trade relations
Vietnam and Germany have developed strong trade and economic ties over the past three decades, supported by a range of bilateral and multilateral agreements.
Germany is one of Vietnam’s largest trading partners in Europe, with trade strengthened by the European Union–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which took effect in 2020 and progressively reduces tariffs on goods moving between the two markets.
Economic cooperation between the two countries dates back to diplomatic relations established in 1975, with trade expanding significantly after Vietnam’s economic reforms in the late 1980s.
Germany has also been a major partner in development cooperation, vocational training and technology transfer, supporting Vietnam’s industrialisation and export-oriented manufacturing sector.
