Vietnam seafood imports up 70.26 percent in March 2026 / India +86.96%, Japan +76.21%

Vietnam imported seafood to the tune of US$287 million in March, up from US$169 million in February, a change of 70.26 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year to date, Vietnam had imported US$754 million worth of seafood by the end of March.

India accounted for US$43 million of Vietnam’s seafood imports in March, up from US$23 million in February, a rise of 86.96 percent. Year to date, imports from India reached US$118 million.

Japan followed with US$36 million in March, up from US$21 million in February, a 76.21 percent increase. Year to date, imports totalled US$81 million.

Norway recorded US$35 million in March, up from US$17 million in February, a rise of 109.53 percent. Year to date, shipments reached US$90 million.

Indonesia posted US$30 million in March, up from US$21 million in February, a 45.18 percent increase. Year to date, imports totalled US$88 million.

China rounded out the top five with US$27 million in March, up from US$20 million in February, a 31.56 percent increase. Year to date, shipments reached US$79 million.

Seafood sector challenges on provincial merger

Nguyen Van Do, chairman of the Ca Mau Seafood Processing and Export Association, has said administrative changes after the provincial mergers last year left farming areas off quality monitoring lists, blocking export certification and triggering order cancellations.
