Vietnam-USA trade relations

Trade relations between Vietnam and the United States were formally normalised in 1995, ending decades of limited economic engagement.

The Bilateral Trade Agreement, signed in 2000 and implemented in 2001, marked a turning point by granting Vietnam improved market access and triggering rapid export growth.

Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organisation in 2007 further aligned its trade framework with global standards and deepened integration with the United States.

More recently, frameworks such as the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework have expanded cooperation in supply chains, digital trade, and regulatory standards.
