ToggleVietnam imported US$12,720.06 million worth of goods from China in February, down from US$19,046.89 million in January, a change of -33.22 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year to date, Vietnam has imported US$31,874 million worth of goods from China.
Computers were the largest import category from China in February at US$4,307.17 million, down from US$5,886.62 million in December, a change of -26.83 percent.
Imports of machines, equipment, tools and instruments reached US$2,438.41 million in February, down from US$3,909.25 million in January, a change of -37.62 percent.
Fabric imports totalled US$703.44 million in February, compared with US$902.55 million in January, a change of -22.06 percent.
Phone imports totalled US$495.82 million in February, compared with US$819.58 million in January, a change of -39.50 percent.

Vietnam’s trade with China
In February, Vietnam imported goods worth US$12,720.06 million from China and exported US$4,704.84 million, bringing total trade to US$17,424.90 million and resulting in a trade deficit of US$8,015.22 million.
Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and China has reached US$42,900.83 million, with Vietnam importing US$31,874.04 million worth of goods and exporting US$11,026.80 million.

Negotiations with China 5G network
Vietnam’s police-controlled telecom operator Mobifone is in talks with Chinese firms over contracts to build parts of its 5G network, according to three sources cited by Reuters.
The discussions would follow 2025 supply deals signed by Viettel and Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group with Huawei and ZTE. Read more→

Vietnam-China trade relations
Vietnam and China share a long history of economic cooperation shaped by geographic proximity and extensive cross-border trade.
China has been Vietnam’s largest trading partner for many years, while Vietnam is China’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Bilateral trade has been supported by regional agreements, including the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area, which reduced tariffs on most goods and expanded market access across Southeast Asia.
The two countries have also signed multiple cooperation frameworks covering border trade, customs facilitation and supply chain connectivity to support growing manufacturing and agricultural exchanges.
