Vietnam imports from Japan down 19.92 percent February 2026 MoM / computers -35.35%, iron and steel -21.17%

In February, Vietnam imported US$1,872.41 million worth of goods from Japan, down from US$2,338.25 million in January, a change of -19.92 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year to date, Vietnam has imported US$4,215 million worth of goods from Japan by the end of February.

Computers accounted for US$715.39 million in February, down from US$1,106.55 million in January, a change of -35.35 percent.

Machinery, equipment, tools and instruments reached US$362.05 million, up from US$354.64 million, a change of 2.09 percent.

Other products totalled US$90.35 million, down from US$110.42 million, a change of -18.18 percent.

Iron and steel imports stood at US$79.10 million, down from US$100.35 million, a change of -21.17 percent.

Ferrous waste and scrap reached US$78.55 million, up from US$69.26 million, a change of 13.42 percent.

Vietnam’s trade with Japan this year

In February, Vietnam imported goods worth US$1,872.41 million from Japan and exported US$1,922.22 million, bringing total trade to US$3,794.63 million and resulting in a trade surplus of US$49.81 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Japan has reached US$8,668.45 million, with Vietnam importing US$4,215.49 million worth of goods and exporting US$4,452.95 million.

PVN and Japanese partners have proposed a carbon capture and storage project in Nghi Son with estimated investment of VND50,000 billion (US$1.90 billion).
