Vietnam imports from South Korea down 9.11 percent February 2026 MoM / computers -6.73%, petroleum products +4.59%

In February, Vietnam imported US$5,534.47 million worth of goods from South Korea, down from US$6,089.06 million in January, a change of -9.11 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$11,637 million worth of goods from South Korea.

Vietnam imported US$3,868.48 million worth of computers from South Korea in February, down from US$4,147.46 million in January, a change of 6.73 percent.

Vietnam imported US$305.92 million worth of machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments from South Korea in February, down from US$424.37 million in January, a change of 27.91 percent.

Vietnam imported US$165.11 million worth of petroleum products from South Korea in February, up from US$157.86 million in January, a change of 4.59 percent.

Vietnam imported US$130.59 million worth of plastics from South Korea in February, down from US$169.77 million in January, a change of 23.08 percent.

Vietnam imported US$123.61 million worth of other base metals from South Korea in February, down from US$127.92 million in January, a change of 3.37 percent.

Vietnam’s trade with South Korea this year

In February, Vietnam imported goods worth US$5,534.47 million from South Korea and exported US$2,456.24 million, bringing total trade to US$7,990.70 million and resulting in a trade deficit of US$3,078.23 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and South Korea has reached US$16,755.85 million, with Vietnam importing US$11,636.80 million worth of goods and exporting US$5,119.05 million.

Aus. + SK rare earth development VN

Australia’s Lynas Rare Earths Ltd. and South Korea’s LS Cable and System Ltd. will explore developing a rare earth metals production plant in Vietnam to expand downstream processing capacity.

The facility would allow Lynas to convert rare earth oxides from its Malaysia plant and Australian mine into finished metals used in permanent magnets. Read more→

South Korean cable factory groundbreaking

South Korea’s Taihan Cable & Solution has begun construction of Vietnam’s first 400 kilovolt extra high voltage cable manufacturing plant in Dong Nai province.

The project is being developed by its subsidiary Taihan Cable Vina at the Long Thanh Industrial Zone on a 56,200 square metre site. Read more→

South Korea-FPT education MoU

Kyungpook National University will launch a degree-granting program in Vietnam with FPT University, allowing students in Hanoi to complete the South Korean university’s curriculum locally.

The program will initially offer undergraduate courses in business administration and computer science, with student recruitment expected in the first half of the year and classes starting later in 2026.

Vietnam-South Korea trade relations

Vietnam and South Korea have developed one of Southeast Asia’s closest economic partnerships, driven by deep trade and investment ties.

Bilateral trade has expanded rapidly under the Vietnam–Korea Free Trade Agreement, which has reduced tariffs and strengthened supply chain integration between the two economies.

South Korea is one of Vietnam’s largest foreign investors, particularly in electronics, manufacturing, and consumer goods, with major conglomerates anchoring export production.

Trade flows are highly complementary, with Vietnam exporting electronics, textiles, and agricultural products, while importing machinery, components, and industrial inputs from South Korea.
