Vietnam’s imports of petroleum products decreased by 29.52 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$589.58 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$836.52 million recorded in December.
Korean firms contribute US$1.25 billion to Vietnam January FDI tally
In January, Korean firms added a total of US$1.25 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam as well as 30 new projects, according to data from Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment. This marks a decrease of US$1.91 billion compared to December, which saw US$3.17 billion in registered capital with 42 new projects.
Calls for 7 percent minimum wage hike in Vietnam in 2025
Ha Minh Vi, the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Industrial Zones in Bac Giang province, has told reporters that he would like to see the minimum wage in Vietnam increase by 7 percent this year. This comes amid reports the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs is preparing to conduct a wages survey to use as a basis for discussing the next minimum wage adjustment.
New dog racing track approved for south-central Vietnam
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh has signed off on a dog racing track project in Vietnam’s Lam Dong province. A licence to operate a bookmaking service, however, has not been approved with developers advised to apply when the track is complete, VietnamNet is reporting.

Information and communication sector in Vietnam records negative US$83.87 million in January FDI
In January, Vietnam’s information and communication sector recorded a total foreign direct investment (FDI) of negative US$83.87 million across ten new projects, according to data from Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment. Foreign investors hold just US$12.6 billion worth of Vietnam stocks as of end 2024
At the end of 2024 foreign investors held just VND 323.53 trillion or US$12.65 billion worth of Vietnamese securities, the General Director of Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation said Monday. This is just 7.35 percent of the securities registered with the corporation which includes everything from bonds to stocks to government debt.
