Vietnam’s imports of fertilizers rise 15.67 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of fertilizers increased by 15.67 percent month-on-month in January to US$143.83 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows an increase from US$124.34 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of fertilizers stood at US$143.83 million. Russia emerged as the largest supplier, contributing US$52.78 million, a sharp increase of 6,373.36 percent month-on-month. China followed with US$34.21 million, representing 23.79 percent of the total, while Belarus supplied US$8.49 million.

Among major suppliers, Norway recorded the highest month-on-month growth after Russia, rising 139.99 percent, followed by Malaysia at 110.42 percent. In contrast, Israel saw the steepest decline, with imports falling 79.66 percent. The USA and Japan also posted significant drops of 60.36 percent and 52.36 percent, respectively.

The industry saw a dramatic shift in supply sources, with Russia dominating the market after a minimal presence in December. While Norway and Malaysia also increased shipments, the decline from China and several other key suppliers indicates fluctuating trade patterns.
