Vietnam’s imports of precious stones and precious metals fall 36.76 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of precious stones and precious metals decreased by 36.76 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$55.43 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a significant decline from US$87.64 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of these products stood at US$55.43 million. India remained the largest supplier, contributing US$10.73 million, or 19.4 percent of the total, followed by South Korea with US$9.57 million, representing 17.3 percent, and Hong Kong with US$8.53 million.

Among major suppliers, Taiwan recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 132.14 percent. South Korea also showed strong growth, rising 53.82 percent. In contrast, Belgium experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling 86.39 percent. Other key suppliers, such as Thailand, Japan, and Canada, also posted significant drops of 67.21 percent, 47.45 percent, and 67.36 percent, respectively.

The market for precious stones and metals in Vietnam remains highly dependent on India and South Korea, which together accounted for over a third of total imports. While Taiwan and South Korea showed growth, overall imports from most suppliers declined sharply, reflecting changing trends and demand in the sector.
