Vietnam UK trade agreements, history
Vietnam and the United Kingdom have developed a robust trade relationship built on mutual liberalisation and open-market access.
Following the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union, both countries signed the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) in December 2020, ensuring continuity of preferential tariffs and investment protections previously covered under the EU-Vietnam FTA.
The deal covers goods, services, and intellectual property, supporting UK exporters in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and education, while expanding access for Vietnamese textiles, seafood, and electronics.
The partnership deepened further when the UK joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in late 2024, reinforcing Vietnam’s role as a key trade gateway for British firms into Southeast Asia.
