Vietnam’s exports of textiles and garments fell 15.6 percent month-on-month to an estimated US$3.26 billion in September 2025, according to data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Shipments to the United States dropped 20.1 percent to US$1.42 billion, while exports to Japan fell 8 percent to US$401 million.
Sales to South Korea declined 14.6 percent to US$311 million, and Canada was down 15.3 percent to US$105 million.
Exports to China fell sharply 44.7 percent to US$99 million, though smaller markets such as Hong Kong and Nigeria recorded gains of 32.8 percent and 204.5 percent respectively.
Across Europe, shipments to the Netherlands and Germany both edged lower by 7.5 percent and 5.9 percent, while France and Italy rose 4 percent and Austria 39.6 percent.
For the first nine months of 2025, total exports reached US$29.74 billion.
Vietnam’s textiles and garments industry is one of the country’s largest export earners, employing millions and contributing a significant share to national GDP.
The sector benefits from Vietnam’s extensive network of free trade agreements, including with the EU, the UK, and members of the CPTPP, which provide preferential access to key markets.
Production is concentrated in major hubs such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and provinces like Binh Duong and Dong Nai, where foreign-invested factories produce for global brands.
However, the industry faces rising competition from regional peers, growing environmental pressures, external trade policy, particularly in the US, and increasing demand for higher value-added, sustainable manufacturing.
