Machine & equipment exports from Vietnam reach US$5.6 billion in September, up 8.08 percent month-on-month.

Vietnam’s exports of machinery, equipment, tools and instruments reached US$5.6 billion in September 2025, up 8.1 percent from August and taking the year-to-date total to nearly US$43 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Shipments to the US rose 18.9 percent to US$2.25 billion, accounting for roughly 40 percent of the monthly total.

Exports to Germany more than doubled ( +57.8 percent ), while sales to Australia jumped 105 percent.

Other notable increases included the Czech Republic (+58.5 percent), Italy (+39.8 percent), Saudi Arabia (+60 percent) and Laos (+181 percent).

Declines were seen for China ( –1.7 percent ), South Korea ( –9.9 percent ), Thailand ( –8.3 percent ), Mexico ( –17.8 percent ), and Belgium ( –58.6 percent ).

Cumulatively, the US remained the largest buyer (YTD US$17.4 billion), followed by China ( US$4 billion ), Hong Kong ( US$2.5 billion ), South Korea ( US$2.3 billion ) and Japan ( US$2 billion ).

Vietnam’s machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments manufacturing sector is a cornerstone of its industrialisation strategy, supporting industries such as construction, agriculture, energy, and electronics.

The country produces a range of products including machine parts, industrial tools, electrical machinery, and precision instruments, though much of the high-tech and heavy machinery is still imported.

Growth in this sector has been driven by strong foreign direct investment, especially from Japan, South Korea, and Europe, which has brought technology transfer and supply-chain integration.

Key manufacturing hubs include Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong.

Challenges include limited domestic R&D, low localisation rates, and dependence on imported components.

However, initiatives under the “Made in Vietnam” program aim to develop supporting industries and raise domestic value-added production.

With continued investment and skill upgrading, Vietnam’s machinery and equipment manufacturing sector is gradually evolving from assembly-based production toward more advanced mechanical and precision engineering.
