ToggleVietnam’s fishery exports declined slightly in September, totalling US$1.01 billion, down 5.63 percent from August, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Shipments to major markets weakened across the board as demand softened and supply constraints persisted.
Exports to China fell 2.08 percent month-on-month, while exports to the United States dropped 3.75 percent and Japan decreased 9.04 percent.
Sales to South Korea declined 4.89 percent, the United Kingdom 22.04 percent, and Canada 17.15 percent, reflecting slower orders ahead of the year-end period.
Among smaller markets, Portugal, Iraq, and New Zealand posted notable month-on-month gains, though from low bases.
Despite the recent decline, year-to-date exports remained above US$8 billion, underscoring the importance of seafood processing in Vietnam.

Seafood production in Vietnam
Vietnam’s processed seafood production in August 2025 was estimated at 659,200 tons, an increase from 641,600 tons in July.
Output in August rose 12.2 percent year-on-year.
From January to August 2025, total production reached 4.64 million tons, up 8.5 percent compared with the same period in 2024.

Listed Vietnam seafood companies
Vinh Hoan Corporation (VHC) is a leading Vietnamese seafood exporter that farms and processes pangasius and other value-added products for global markets.
VHC closed at VND 54,400 on Friday up 0.1 percent with 6,184,000 shares traded, worth VND 33,738 million.
Foreign ownership in VHC is currently capped at 100 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 18.9 percent.
Sao Ta Foods Joint Stock Company (FMC) farms, processes, and exports shrimp and other aquatic products, including breaded and pre-fried items.
FMC closed at VND 35,250 on Friday up 0.2 percent with 467,000 shares traded, worth VND 1,641 million.
Foreign ownership in FMC is currently capped at 50 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 31 percent.
Mekong Fisheries Joint Stock Company (AAM) processes and exports frozen and fresh fish such as pangasius fillets, octopus, and cuttlefish from its base in the Mekong Delta.
AAM closed at VND 7,200 on Friday up 0.05 percent with 115,000 shares traded, worth VND 83 million.
Foreign ownership in AAM is currently capped at 49 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 0.8 percent.
