Toys & sporting goods exports from Vietnam down 9.56 percent in October, to USA down 4 percent MoM

Vietnam exported toys and sporting goods to the tune of US$962 million in October, down 9.56 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year to date, Vietnam had exported US$7,514 million worth of toys and sporting goods by the end of October.

In October, Vietnam’s top export destination for toys and sporting goods was the USA, accounting for US$741 million worth. This was down 4.01 percent over September. Year to date, Vietnam has shipped US$5,238 million worth of toys and sporting goods to the USA.

After the USA, Japan was the next biggest buyer of toys and sporting goods from Vietnam. There was US$51 million worth of toys and sporting goods shipped from Vietnam to Japan in October, a jump of 10.40 percent. Its total for the year to date is now sitting at US$436 million.

UK was also a major buyer, with US$34 million worth of toys and sporting goods shipped to the country from Vietnam in October. This was a up 3.20 percent compared to September, for a total of US$256 million for the year so far.

Rounding out the top five was China spending US$28 million on Vietnam’s toys and sporting goods, a 0.60 percent change for a total of US$181 million for the year, and Netherlands with US$14 million, a -25.07 percent change month-on-month, for a total of US$154 million.

Duc Thanh Wood Processing JSC (GDT) manufactures wooden household products, furniture, and toys for export markets.

GDT closed at VND 20,900 on Wednesday down 0.05 percent with 7,000 shares traded, worth VND 15 million.

Foreign ownership in GDT is currently capped at 50.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 5.8 percent.

Local sportswear brand’s capital raising

It was announced in early November that Vietnamese fashion start-up Coolmate completed its Series C funding round led by Vertex Growth Fund, with participation from Cool Japan Fund, YoungOne CVC, and existing investors.

It says the new capital will drive three strategies: expanding into women’s sportswear (Go Women), opening physical stores (Go Offline), and scaling internationally (Go Global).

Footwear industry body + Vietnam minister

Vietnam’s industry minister met major US footwear brands in Washington, earlier this month, including Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Michael Kors, Steve Madden and Columbia said they want to expand their long-term cooperation with Vietnam as supply chains shift globally.

They said Vietnam remains one of their most important production bases and growth markets, though high US tariffs are hurting operations and limiting expansion.
