Textile, leather and footwear materials imports Vietnam, down 4.69 percent in October, China and USA top suppliers

Vietnam imported textile, leather and footwear materials and auxiliaries to the tune of US$631 million in October, down 4.69 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year to date, Vietnam had imported US$6,056 million worth of textile, leather and footwear materials and auxiliaries by the end of October.

In October, Vietnam’s top supplier of textile, leather and footwear materials was China, accounting for US$359 million worth. This was down 9.41 percent over September. Year to date, China has shipped US$3,574 million worth of textile, leather and footwear materials and auxiliaries to Vietnam.

After China, the USA was the next biggest supplier. It shipped US$38 million worth of textile, leather and footwear materials and auxiliaries to Vietnam in October, a fall of 0.16 percent. Its total for the year to date is now sitting at US$378 million.

South Korea was also a major supplier, shipping US$31 million worth of textile, leather and footwear materials and auxiliaries to Vietnam in October. This was a fall of 0.08 percent, for a total of US$352 million for the year.

Rounding out the top five was Taiwan with US$27 million, a -7 percent change month-on-month, for a total of US$293 million for the year, and Japan with US$26 million, a 13.12 percent change for a total of US$231 million.

Everpia JSC (EVE) manufactures bedding, home textiles, and insulation materials under brands such as Everon.

EVE closed at VND 11,450 on Thursday up 0.3 percent with 889,000 shares traded, worth VND 1,008 million.

Foreign ownership in EVE is currently capped at 100.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 68.3 percent.

Mirae JSC

Mirae JSC (KMR) manufactures textile and nonwoven fabric products used in apparel, medical, and hygiene industries.

KMR closed at VND 2,990 on Thursday down 0.01 percent with 176,000 shares traded, worth VND 52 million.

Foreign ownership in KMR is currently capped at 100.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 62.6 percent.

Song Hong Garment JSC

Song Hong Garment JSC (MSH) manufactures and exports garments and textiles for global fashion brands.

MSH closed at VND 40,300 on Thursday down 0.2 percent with 4,935,000 shares traded, worth VND 19,903 million.

US firm OrthoLite, performance insoles and foam components for footwear, has opened a new manufacturing facility in Ninh Binh as part of its push for local-for-local production in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s textile/footwear industry

Vietnam’s textile and footwear industry is one of the country’s largest export earners, supported by a deep manufacturing base, competitive labour costs and strong integration into global supply chains.

Major brands source heavily from Vietnam, with production concentrated in key hubs such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and the Red River Delta.
