Textile, footwear materials imports for Vietnam, up 13.98 percent month-on-month in September, China and USA top suppliers

Vietnam’s imports of textile, leather, and footwear materials and auxiliaries rose to US$661.94 million in September, up 13.98 percent from August, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

China remained the dominant supplier with US$396.24 million in shipments, increasing 5.69 percent month-on-month and accounting for the bulk of total imports.

Imports from the United States reached US$38.47 million, up 18.08 percent, while South Korea and Taiwan also recorded growth of 15.72 percent and 8.02 percent respectively.

Shipments from Japan rose 18.87 percent to US$22.87 million, and purchases from Brazil jumped 31.53 percent to US$7.90 million, reflecting stronger demand for specialised materials.

Several smaller markets saw notable percentage gains, including Poland at 268.55 percent and Austria at 88.32 percent, though from low bases.

Year-to-date imports stood at US$5.41 billion.

Vietnam garment and textiles exports

Vietnam’s exports of textiles and garments in September fell 15.6 percent month-on-month over August to an estimated US$3.26 billion.

Shipments to the United States dropped 20.1 percent to US$1.42 billion, while exports to Japan fell 8 percent to US$401 million.

Sales to South Korea declined 14.6 percent to US$311 million, and Canada was down 15.3 percent to US$105 million.

Vietnam footwear exports

Vietnam exported footwear worth US$1.71 billion in September 2025, down 14.4 percent from August.

Year-to-date footwear exports totalled US$17.79 billion.

The decline was led by a steep 27.2 percent fall in shipments to the United States, Vietnam’s largest market, which dropped to US$611.5 million.
