Petroleum products imports into Vietnam, down 7.86 percent in October, Singapore and South Korea top suppliers

Vietnam imported petroleum products to the tune of US$480 million in October, down 7.86 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year to date, Vietnam had imported US$5,688 million worth of petroleum products by the end of October.

In October, Vietnam’s top supplier of petroleum products was Singapore, accounting for US$160 million worth. This was up 22.23 percent over September. Year to date, Singapore has shipped US$2,014 million worth of petroleum products to Vietnam.

After Singapore, South Korea was the next biggest supplier. It shipped US$101 million worth of petroleum products to Vietnam in October, a fall of 34.54 percent. Its total for the year to date is now sitting at US$1,555 million.

China was also a major supplier, shipping US$72 million worth of petroleum products to Vietnam in October. This was a fall of 4.52 percent, for a total of US$784 million for the year.

Rounding out the top five was Malaysia with US$63 million, a -27.95 percent change month-on-month, for a total of US$902 million for the year, and Thailand with US$51 million, a 1.97 percent change for a total of US$214 million.

Petrol production in Vietnam

Vietnam’s gasoline and oil output was 1.54 million tons in September, down 1.15 percent from August’s 1.56 million tons, according to the latest data from National Statistics Office.

Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical JSC

Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical JSC (BSR) operates the Dung Quat Refinery and engages in refining crude oil and producing petroleum products.

BSR closed at VND 15,800 on Friday down 0.25 percent with 29,207,000 shares traded, worth VND 46,212 million.

Foreign ownership in BSR is currently capped at 79.1 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 0.8 percent.

Petroleum Materials Distribution JSC

Petroleum Materials Distribution JSC (COM) trades petroleum products and distributes fuels and lubricants under the Petrolimex network.

COM closed at VND 29,100 on Friday down 0 percent with 1,000 shares traded, worth VND 3 million.

Foreign ownership in COM is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 0.2 percent.

Petrolimex International Trading JSC

Petrolimex International Trading JSC (PIT) imports, exports, and trades petroleum, chemicals, and industrial materials.

PIT closed at VND 6,250 on Friday up 0.14 percent with 6,000 shares traded, worth VND 4 million.

Foreign ownership in PIT is currently capped at 0.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 0.0 percent.

VND 0 revenue servo chain

Nam Song Hau Petroleum (PSH) reported zero revenue in Q3 2025 despite holding assets worth VND 10.53 trillion or about US$399.5 million, with accumulated losses nearing VND 1 trillion or US$37.9 million.

Analysts warned PSH faces a severe liquidity crisis, holding VND 4.68 trillion or US$177.6 million in unsold inventory and minimal cash reserves under 3 percent of assets, compared with Petrolimex’s 25 percent.

Transport carbon emissions

Experts at a 27 October conference on diesel emissions said Vietnam should adopt interim solutions to cut pollution from older combustion vehicles instead of phasing them out immediately.

Senior researcher Nguyen Huu Luong from the Vietnam Petroleum Institute proposed installing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems using Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to cut NOx emissions by up to 90 percent and particulate matter by 30–50 percent.
