Singapore ships US$492.69 million of goods to Vietnam in October, up 8.07 percent

In October, Vietnam imported US$493 million worth of goods from Singapore, up 8.07 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$4,947 million worth of goods from Singapore.

Vietnam’s biggest import from Singapore in value terms was petroleum products, worth US$160.17 million. This was up 22.23 percent over September. It brings the total imported so far this year to US$2,014.03 million.

This was followed by computers, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof, valued at US$103.37 million, up 3.31 percent from September. Year-to-date these imports reached US$696.39 million.

Machine, equipment, tools and instruments were also popular imports from Singapore, totalling US$42.71 million, rising 28.26 percent over September. Cumulative imports now stand at US$262.60 million.

Other petroleum products also featured prominently, accounting for US$41.50 million worth of imports from Singapore, a decline of 3.30 percent versus September. Total imports so far this year are sitting at US$459.52 million.

Imports of cosmetics from Singapore round out the top five, valued at US$40.53 million.

Vietnam trade with Singapore

In October, Vietnam imported goods worth US$492.69 million from Singapore and exported US$517.95 million, bringing total trade to US$1,010.64 million and resulting in a trade surplus of US$25.27 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Singapore has reached US$9,800.11 million, with Vietnam importing US$4,947.02 million worth of goods and exporting US$4,853.09 million.

Singapore’s Keppel Vietnam divestment

Singapore’s Keppel reportedly divested nearly 2.39 billion SGD or US$1.8 billion in the first nine months of 2025, including 322 million SGD or US$247 million in Vietnam, equal to VND 6.5 trillion.

Keppel sold 42 percent of the Palm City project for SGD 141 million, 22.6 percent of the Saigon Centre phase 3 for SGD 98 million, Nam Long shares for SGD 58 million, and 30 percent of a housing project in Ho Chi Minh City for SGD 25 million.

Singapore-Vietnam rice MoU

Vietnam and Singapore signed a memorandum of cooperation on rice trade on 30 October 2025 on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea.

The deal, signed by Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu and Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, aims to stabilise bilateral rice trade and ensure food security by avoiding unnecessary trade restrictions.
