ToggleIn October, Vietnam imported US$977 million worth of goods from Malaysia, up 1.22 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$9,162 million worth of goods from Malaysia.
Vietnam’s biggest import from Malaysia in value terms was computers, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof, worth US$338.58 million. This was down 14.56 percent over September. It brings the total imported so far this year to US$3,313.84 million.
This was followed by machine, equipment, tools and instruments, valued at US$114.83 million, up 33.83 percent from September. Year-to-date these imports reached US$813.81 million.
Other products were also popular imports from Malaysia, totalling US$74.30 million, rising 91.51 percent over September. Cumulative imports now stand at US$517.99 million.
Petroleum products also featured prominently, accounting for US$63.28 million worth of imports from Malaysia, a decline of 27.95 percent versus September. Total imports so far this year are sitting at US$901.98 million.
Imports of chemicals from Malaysia round out the top five, valued at US$54.10 million.

Vietnam trade with Malaysia
In October, Vietnam imported goods worth US$977.25 million from Malaysia and exported US$457.90 million, bringing total trade to US$1,435.14 million and resulting in a trade deficit of US$519.35 million.
Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Malaysia has reached US$13496.90 million, with Vietnam importing US$9,161.57 million worth of goods and exporting US$4,335.33 million.

Vietnam-Malaysia trade relations
Vietnam and Malaysia have maintained close economic and trade cooperation under both bilateral and regional frameworks.
As fellow ASEAN members, they participate in agreements such as the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which collectively support tariff reduction and market access between the two economies.
Bilateral trade has expanded steadily, covering key sectors such as electronics, petroleum, machinery, and agricultural products.
Both countries have signed agreements on investment promotion, air transport, and technical cooperation, strengthening supply chain integration and energy collaboration.
