Vietnam’s iron and steel products industry

Vietnam’s iron and steel products industry is driven by domestic construction demand and infrastructure investment, supported by large producers such as Hoa Phat and Formosa Ha Tinh.

The sector produces a range of products, including construction steel, flat steel, and downstream fabricated goods, with growing capacity aimed at both domestic use and exports.

Vietnam remains reliant on imported raw materials such as iron ore and coking coal, exposing producers to global price volatility and supply chain risks.

The industry faces challenges from overcapacity, trade defence measures in export markets, and rising input costs, while benefiting from public investment and industrial expansion.
