Vietnam’s fishery exports increased 10.56 percent month-on-month to US$1.07 billion in August, lifting year-to-date shipments to US$7.16 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
China remained the largest market at US$216 million, up 8.03 percent, followed by the US at US$189 million, which jumped 26.54 percent.
Japan also saw robust growth of 18.74 percent to US$165 million.
South Korea edged up 3.12 percent to US$79 million, while the UK, Australia, and Canada posted steady single-digit gains.
The Netherlands stood out with a sharp 26.58 percent rise, while Germany and Taiwan saw marginal declines.
Hong Kong fell 15.72 percent and the Philippines plunged 23.56 percent, showing volatility in regional demand.
Year-to-date, China, the US, and Japan together account for over 52 percent of Vietnam’s fishery exports.
Smaller but growing markets include the Netherlands, Australia, and Brazil, while emerging buyers such as Israel, Norway, and New Zealand posted large percentage increases despite smaller absolute values.
Of note, Vietnam’s seafood industry is one of the largest in the world and a key pillar of its export economy.
The country is a top global supplier of shrimp, pangasius (tra fish), tuna, and squid, with major markets in the US, EU, Japan, South Korea, and China.
Strong aquaculture capacity, especially in the Mekong Delta, underpins growth, while wild-catch fisheries continue to contribute.
The industry benefits from trade agreements such as the CPTPP and EVFTA, which reduce tariffs and expand market access.
