ToggleVietnam exported wood and wooden products to the tune of US$1,483 million in November, down from US$1,534 million in October, a change of -3.31 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year to date, Vietnam had exported US$15,519 million worth of wood and wooden products by the end of November.
The USA accounted for US$816 million worth of Vietnam’s wood and wooden products exports in November. This was down from US$838 million in wood and wooden products exports in October, a change of -2.61 percent. Year to date, Vietnam has shipped US$8,620 million worth of wood and wooden products to the USA.
After the USA was China making up US$203 million worth of Vietnam’s wood and wooden products exports in November. This was up from US$200 million in wood and wooden products exports in October, a change of 1.67 percent. Year to date, Vietnam has shipped US$1,809 million worth of wood and wooden products to China.
Next was Japan taking US$196 million worth of Vietnam’s wood and wooden products exports in November. This was down from US$207 million in wood and wooden products exports in October, a change of -5.28 percent. Year to date, Vietnam has shipped US$1,958 million worth of wood and wooden products to Japan.
Following Japan was South Korea representing US$53 million worth of Vietnam’s wood and wooden products exports in November. This was down from US$53 million in wood and wooden products exports in October, a change of -0.54 percent. Year to date, Vietnam has shipped US$645 million worth of wood and wooden products to South Korea.
Rounding out the top five was Canada constituting US$22 million worth of Vietnam’s wood and wooden products exports in November. This was down from US$27 million in wood and wooden products exports in October, a change of -17.01 percent. Year to date, Vietnam has shipped US$258 million worth of wood and wooden products to Canada.

Trade challenges
At a Ministry of Industry and Trade seminar in Hanoi, Industry representatives warned that some export sectors, including wood products, face a development “trap”, with rising volumes but weak margins and limited capital accumulation.
Trade experts also cautioned that exporters face stricter sustainability, environmental and supply-chain standards, while many firms remain slow to proactively use free trade agreements.
Wood manufacturer challenges
Delegates at the Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association’s fifth congress have outlined major challenges facing wood manufacturers including rising input costs, falling selling prices, legal risks over material origins and supply-chain disruptions.
Speakers said craft villages also struggle with outdated designs and limited digital capacity, while the agriculture and environment ministry urged the association to help firms meet legal-timber standards, expand markets and build transparent, sustainable supply chains.
