Push for removal US D1 D3 export control lists
Vietnamnet is reporting that Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau visited Hanoi this week, where Vietnamese officials urged the United States to remove Vietnam from the D1 and D3 export control lists.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc also called for market economy recognition and closer cooperation in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation. View source→
Coal output increase approved
Bao Moi is reporting that coal miners will be allowed to exceed licensed production capacity by up to 15 percent until December 31, 2027.
The government said the measure is intended to ensure coal supplies for electricity generation and other foundational industries during an energy security emergency, the article says. View source→
Philippines-Vietnam integration challenges
The Business Times is reporting that rice import restrictions, tariff changes and trade frictions are complicating commercial ties between Vietnam and the Philippines.
Vietnam supplies 85.3 percent of Philippine rice imports, while the Philippines accounts for 40 percent of Vietnam’s global rice exports, making rice central to the relationship.
However, Philippine import restrictions and a new flexible rice tariff regime have created uncertainty for Vietnamese exporters, while Philippine officials have raised concerns about Vietnamese suppliers cancelling contracts when prices exceed contracted values. View source→
Renewables development
RE News is reporting that global renewable energy consultancy OWC and Pioneer International Consulting signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Hanoi on June 10 to advise on renewable energy projects in Vietnam.
The partnership will provide technical, regulatory and commercial advisory services across the full project lifecycle for wind and other renewable energy developments. View source→
M&A transactions May
VIR is reporting that Vietnam recorded 24 merger and acquisition transactions in May, with 22 disclosed deals worth more than US$700 million, according to a report from Grant Thornton Vietnam.
A US$530 million restructuring involving VinFast Auto’s divestment of its stake in VinFast Production and Trading drove most of the month’s disclosed transaction value, the article notes. View source→
New insurance calculations on base salary increase
Dau Tu Kien Thuc is reporting that social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance and occupational accident insurance contributions will need to be calculated using the new base salary of VND 2.53 million (US$96) per month from July 1, 2026.
The change applies to state-sector employees, participants whose social insurance contributions are based on the statutory base salary, and voluntary social insurance contributors. View source→
Contract disputes Hanoi metro
Thanh Nien is reporting that contract disputes have emerged in Package CP06 of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line, covering rolling stock, signalling and other equipment systems.
The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board said disagreements over costs, schedules and responsibilities had arisen during implementation, but work is continuing under the contract and relevant regulations.
The Hanoi Department of Construction has requested the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board to explain the causes and impacts of the dispute and submit a report by June 12. View source→
Gov’t bond auction Wednesday
Vietnam’s State Treasury raised VND 7.98 trillion (approximately US$302.8 million) through a government bond auction on June 10, representing 46.9 percent of the VND 17 trillion (US$645.2 million) offered across five tenors, according to a release from the Vietnam Bond Market Association. Exchange rates Wednesday
On June 10, in Vietnam, the black market US dollar buy rate was VND 26,370, and the sell rate was VND 26,400, a change of 30 and 40, respectively, for a mid-market rate of VND 26,385 (up 0.13 percent), according to prices quoted by Ty Gia USD. Read the full article →
