Canada furniture brand new HCMC office
Furniture Today is reporting that Canadian furniture brand Sunpan has opened an Asia headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, establishing a permanent Vietnam office to oversee regional product development and sourcing.
The Toronto-based company said the new office will work closely with its head office in Toronto to align product development with production oversight and supplier coordination across Asia.

South Korea tyre manufacturing expansion
Cho Sun is reporting that South Korea’s Kolon Industries is expanding its Vietnam tire cord plant.
The company invested about 30 billion won, roughly US$22.7 million, to add heat-treatment facilities in Vietnam, lifting annual tire cord capacity from 36,000 tonnes to 57,000 tonnes from January 2027.

Vietanm joins IEA
VnExpress is reporting that Vietnam has been approved as an associate country of the International Energy Agency at a Ministerial Meeting held in Paris on February 18 and 19.
International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol said expanded ties with Vietnam, Brazil, Colombia and India lift the network’s coverage to over 80 per cent of global energy consumption.

USA restricted list removal
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that United States President Donald Trump has said he would direct relevant agencies to soon remove Vietnam from the strategic export control list categories D1 to D3.
This was part of bilateral cooperation discussions on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Gaza Peace Council.

Response to EU tax noncooperation list
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson Pham Thu Hang has responded to the European Union, adding Vietnam to its list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions, saying Vietnam values cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on tax transparency and information exchange.
She noted changes to the Law on Tax Administration, the Law on Enterprises and Decree 168/2025/ND CP to improve compliance with international standards.

Labour market Q1 growth forecast
The Investor is reporting that the Ministry of Home Affairs has projected Vietnam will add about 300,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2026, raising total employment to around 53 million.
The ministry said stronger export orders and manufacturing expansion after the Lunar New Year holiday would drive hiring, with food processing expected to rise 3.1 percent and transport equipment to rise 2.6 percent.

YADEA electric bike factory
Happy Vietnam is reporting that China’s YADEA Vietnam will inaugurate a US$100 million electric motorbike factory in Bac Ninh on March 1 at Tan Hung Industrial Park.
The plant represents the first phase of the company’s investment in Vietnam and is part of its expansion strategy in Southeast Asia.

Antidumping duties shrimp
Dan Tri is reporting that the United States Department of Commerce has lowered final anti-dumping duties on certain frozen shrimp from Vietnam.
Soc Trang Seafood Joint Stock Company and Thong Thuan Company Limited received rates of 25.76 percent, with cash deposit rates of 25.46 percent.
Other companies qualifying for a separate rate were assigned a 4.58 percent dumping margin and 4.28 percent cash deposit rate, down from a preliminary 35.29 percent rate.

Mortgage rates reach 15 percent
VnExpress is reporting that mortgage lending rates at several banks have risen from 6 to 8 percent to around 12 to 14 percent within a short period.
Vietcombank raised home loan rates to at least 9.6 percent, while VietinBank set fixed 24-month property loans above 12 percent and BIDV up to 13.5 percent for 18 months.
Private banks such as MB Bank, VIB, ACB and Techcombank offer fixed rates of roughly 8.5 to 12 percent, with floating rates at 11 to 15 percent.
Industry representatives said higher rates reflect tighter credit limits for real estate and rising funding costs, increasing monthly repayment burdens for borrowers.

Tourist arrivals from Europe January
