Vietnam’s gas industry

Vietnam’s gas industry supplies fuel for power generation, industry and household consumption, and is a key component of the country’s broader energy system.

Domestic production comes mainly from offshore fields in the Cuu Long, Nam Con Son and Malay–Tho Chu basins, transported onshore through pipeline networks operated by PetroVietnam units.

Natural gas accounts for a significant share of Vietnam’s electricity generation, particularly through gas-fired power plants in the south.

Vietnam is expanding liquefied natural gas import terminals and gas infrastructure to supplement declining domestic output and meet rising energy demand.
