Vietnam-China trade relations
Vietnam and China normalised relations in 1991 and have since developed extensive economic ties under a framework of bilateral agreements and regional trade arrangements.
Key milestones include the ASEAN–China Free Trade Area, which came into effect in 2010, and successive protocols on customs cooperation, border trade and market access for agricultural products.
China has been Vietnam’s largest trading partner for many years, with trade spanning machinery, electronics, textiles inputs, agricultural goods and raw materials.
Both sides have expanded cooperation under connectivity agreements, while also managing technical barriers through regular government-level dialogue mechanisms.
