Vietnam exports to Australia US$660 million in December, up 17.22 percent month-on-month

In December, Vietnam exported US$660 million worth of goods to Australia, up 17.22 percent over November, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

So far this year, Vietnam has exported US$6,811 million worth of goods to Australia.

Vietnam exported US$126.59 million worth of computers, electrical products, and spare-parts to Australia in December. This was up from US$83.22 million in November, a change of 52.13 percent.

It also exported US$67.15 million worth of machine, equipment, tools and instruments to Australia in December. This was up from US$44.91 million in November, a change of 49.52 percent.

Adding to that, Vietnam exported US$66.95 million worth of crude oil to Australia in December. This was up from US$64.70 million in November, a change of 3.47 percent.

It also exported US$56.68 million worth of textiles and garments to Australia in December. This was up from US$42.91 million in November, a change of 32.09 percent.

Vietnam also exported US$43.75 million worth of footwear to Australia in December. This was up from US$40.89 million in November, a change of 7.00 percent.

Vietnam trade with Australia

In December, Vietnam imported US$690.13 million worth of goods from Australia and exported US$659.81 million to Australia, for total trade worth US$1,349.94 million, and leaving a trade deficit of US$30.32 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Australia has reached US$14,001 million, with Vietnam importing US$7,190 million worth of goods and exporting US$6,811 million worth of goods.

Recent developments involving the two countries include:

Fake Australian meat bust

VnExpress is reporting that Ho Chi Minh City police have busted a counterfeit food operation that sold pork packaged as premium meats, including ostrich, Australian goat leg, porcupine and venison meat.

Authorities estimate over 50 tonnes were sold, with a market value of about VND 10 billion (US$379,500), and several billion dong in illicit profits.

Vietnam-Australia trade relations

Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1973, with ties deepening steadily through trade, development assistance, education, and security cooperation.

The relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024, building on a history of expanding economic and political engagement.
