ToggleIn October, Vietnam imported US$379 million worth of goods from Germany, up 2.28 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$3,361 million worth of goods from Germany.
Vietnam’s biggest import from Germany in value terms was machine, equipment, tools and instruments, worth US$166.52 million. This was up 12.61 percent over September. It brings the total imported so far this year to US$1,273.75 million.
Pharmaceutical products were also popular imports from Germany, totalling US$30.52 million, though falling 11.58 percent over September. Cumulative imports now stand at US$343.75 million.
Computers, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof also featured prominently, accounting for US$25.17 million worth of imports from Germany, an increase of 11.19 percent versus September. Total imports so far this year are sitting at US$187.40 million.
Imports of chemical products from Germany round out the top five, valued at US$24.17 million.

Vietnam exports to Germany
In October, Vietnam exported US$818 million worth of goods to Germany, up 7.64 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has exported US$7,781 million worth of goods to Germany.

Vietnam total trade with Germany
In October, Vietnam imported US$379.03 million worth of goods from Germany and exported US$818.44 million, for total trade worth US$1,197.48 million, and leaving a trade surplus of US$439.41 million.
Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Germany has reached US$11,142 million, with Vietnam importing US$3,361 million worth of goods and exporting US$7,781 million worth of goods.

Vietnam-Germany trade & investment news
Central Vietnam wind power
It was reported in October that Gia Lai province has approved three major wind power projects with total investment of VND 19.35 trillion or US$734.9 million following its merger with Binh Dinh.
This includes the 146MW Vinh Thuan project by Germany’s WPD Vietnam is valued at VND 4.68 trillion or US$177.7 million and will generate 239.9 million kWh annually.
VinFast Germany suit claims
An emergency lawsuit was bought by Vietnam’s Vingroup in Germany against journalist Le Trung Khoa with the company requesting the court order the journalist to cease making what it claimed to be defamatory claims against the company.
Vingroup alleged that Khoa made unfounded statements calling Vingroup a “mafia corporation,” accusing it of terrorism and bombing the online publication thoibao.de’s office, and claiming VinFast had bribed him.
Germany-Vietnam gas project
Petrovietnam’s subsidiary PVChem signed a joint venture agreement with Germany’s Messer SE & Co. KGaA, the world’s largest privately owned industrial gas company, to build a US$37 million low-carbon gas plant in the Cai Mep Industrial Zone in Ho Chi Minh City.
The plant will produce 200,000 tonnes of industrial gases annually and is scheduled to begin construction in late 2026, starting operations by the end of 2028.

Vietnam-Germany trade relations
Vietnam and Germany have developed a longstanding trade partnership shaped by diplomatic ties dating back to the 1970s.
Key milestones include Germany’s early support for Vietnam’s reform period and the subsequent expansion of economic cooperation across manufacturing, machinery, pharmaceuticals and education.
The EU Vietnam Free Trade Agreement has strengthened the relationship by reducing tariffs and opening market access for goods and services.
Today Germany is one of Vietnam’s largest trading partners in the EU and a major investor.
