Austria buys US$204 million of Vietnam’s exports in September, down 19.51 percent

Vietnam’s exports to Austria fell by 19.51 percent in September 2025 to US$204.39 million from US$253.92 million in September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date exports totalled US$1.98 billion, with telephones, mobile phones and parts continuing to dominate, contributing US$137.33 million in September.

Exports of other products declined 27.12 percent to US$45.17 million.

Machines, equipment, tools and instruments dropped 21.03 percent to US$15.77 million.

Shipments of footwear rose 25.53 percent to US$2.13 million, and textiles and garments climbed 39.63 percent to US$1.98 million.

Smaller categories such as wood and wooden products increased sharply by 81.88 percent, though absolute values remained low.

Vietnam trade with Austria

Vietnam’s trade with Austria reached a total of US$2.34 billion in the first ten months of 2025, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Exports stood at US$1.98 billion, down 19.51 percent month-on-month in September to US$204.39 million.

Imports increased 18.96 percent to US$44.01 million, bringing the cumulative value to US$362.09 million.

The trade balance remained strongly in Vietnam’s favour, with a surplus of US$1.62 billion year-to-date.

Vietnam-Austria trade relations

Vietnam and Austria maintain a stable economic partnership built on the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

Austria views Vietnam as a key Southeast Asian partner and a gateway to the wider ASEAN market.

Vietnam mainly exports electronics, machinery and footwear to Austria, while importing industrial machinery, pharmaceuticals and specialised equipment.

Cooperation is expanding into renewable energy, vocational training and innovation.

Both countries aim to deepen ties under the EVFTA and the forthcoming EVIPA, with a shared focus on green growth and skilled labour exchange.
