Vietnam’s rice industry
Vietnam’s rice industry is one of the country’s key export sectors, ranking among the world’s top three rice exporters alongside Thailand and India.
Production is concentrated in the Mekong Delta, which accounts for a significant portion of total output due to fertile soil and extensive irrigation.
The Red River Delta and central provinces also contribute.
Vietnam exports mainly to the Philippines, China, Ghana, and Ivory Coast, while diversifying into high-value markets such as the EU under the EVFTA.
Government policy focuses on improving quality and sustainability, shifting from volume-based exports toward fragrant, organic and specialty rice varieties to enhance value and competitiveness.
