Vietnam’s yarn industry

Vietnam’s yarn industry is a key upstream segment of the textile and garment value chain, producing cotton, polyester, and blended yarns for both domestic use and export.

China is the dominant export market, accounting for more than 80 percent of shipments, followed by South Korea and the United States.

The sector relies heavily on imported cotton, with domestic output struggling to meet demand.

Free trade agreements and the shift of global supply chains from China have supported Vietnam’s role as a regional yarn exporter.

However, competitiveness depends on investment in automation, recycled fibres, and sustainability standards to meet rising international demand.
