China accounted for US$820 million worth of Vietnam’s phone imports in January. This was down from US$861 million in phone imports in December, a change of 4.78 percent. Year to date, China has shipped US$820 million worth of phones to Vietnam.
After China was South Korea making up US$28 million worth of Vietnam’s phone imports in January. This was up from US$22 million in phone imports in December, a change of 30.82 percent. Year to date, South Korea has shipped US$28 million worth of phones to Vietnam.
Next was Taiwan contributing US$1 million worth of Vietnam’s phone imports in January. This was down from US$3 million in phone imports in December, a change of 79.75 percent. Year to date, Taiwan has shipped US$1 million worth of phones to Vietnam.

Phone exports
Vietnam exported Phones to the tune of US$5,662 million in January, up from US$4,054 million in December, a change of 39.65 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

FPT Retail JSC (FRT) operates FPT Shop and F.Studio retail chains selling electronics, phones, and IT products.
FRT closed at VND 171,900 on Monday, up 1.9 percent with 5,825,000 shares traded, worth VND 99,822 million.
Foreign ownership in FRT is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 33.0 percent.
Mobile World Investment Corporation
Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG) runs retail chains including Thegioididong, Dien May Xanh, and Bach Hoa Xanh, selling electronics and groceries.
MWG closed at VND 92,000 on Monday, down 0.8 percent with 50,031,000 shares traded, worth VND 460,266 million.
Foreign ownership in MWG is currently capped at 48.7 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 47.3 percent.
Viettronics Tan Binh JSC
Viettronics Tan Binh JSC (VTB) manufactures and trades electrical appliances, lighting, and consumer electronics.
VTB closed at VND 16,000 on Monday, down 0.7 percent with 196,000 shares traded, worth VND 314 million.
Foreign ownership in VTB is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 1.6 percent.

Vietnam’s electronics industry
Vietnam’s electronics industry is a major export sector, driven by foreign direct investment from multinational firms producing smartphones, computers and components.
