In November, Vietnam imported US$1,766.59 million worth of goods from the USA, up from US$1,570.82 million in October, a change of 12.46 percent, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$16,998 million worth of goods from the USA.
Vietnam imported US$542.67 million worth of computers, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof from the USA in November. This was up from US$375.95 million in October, a change of 44.35 percent.
Vietnam imported US$279.71 million worth of other products from the USA in November. This was up from US$243.35 million in October, a change of 14.94 percent.
Vietnam imported US$132.81 million worth of fruits and vegetables from the USA in November. This was up from US$46.62 million in October, a change of 184.86 percent.
Vietnam imported US$123.40 million worth of machines, equipment, tools and instruments from the USA in November. This was down from US$129.75 million in October, a change of -4.89 percent.
Vietnam imported US$105.78 million worth of plastics from the USA in November. This was up from US$88.96 million in October, a change of 18.9 percent.

In November, Vietnam exported US$12.4 billion worth of goods to the USA, down 7.16 percent over October, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has exported US$138.6 billion worth of goods to the USA.

Vietnam trade with USA
In October, Vietnam imported US$1,766.59 million worth of goods from USA and exported US$12,448.98 million, for total trade worth US$14,215.57 million, and leaving a trade surplus of US$10,682.40 million.
Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and USA has reached US$155,609 million, with Vietnam importing US$16,998 million worth of goods and exporting US$138,611 million worth of goods.

Recent developments involving the two countries include:
Circumvention investigation steel wheels
The US Department of Commerce opened an anti-circumvention investigation into 22.5–24.5 inch steel wheels completed in Vietnam using Chinese hot-rolled steel.
Petitioners claim imports of Chinese hot-rolled steel into Vietnam surged 291 percent between 2017 and 2023, with Vietnamese steel wheel shipments increased from US$7 million in 2018 to US$76 million in 2024, and that this suggests Chinese steel makers have been using Vietnam to circumvent antidumping duties.
New US seafood certification requirements
The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) notified Vietnam that strict Certificates of Origin for Aquatic products will apply from 1 January 2026.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) says imported raw materials worth US$300-320 million a year may be impacted.
Refinery US crude import increase
BSR (Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical) is increasing imports of US crude oil and will receive 1 million barrels of WTI in early January 2026, its second shipment in three months.
Vietnam is buying more US goods, including crude oil, LNG (liquefied natural gas), agricultural products and aircraft, to narrow its trade surplus with the US.
Coffee removed from “recipricol” tariffs
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order rolling back tariff increases on coffee, beef, tomatoes, bananas and other agricultural imports.
The goods will no longer face “reciprocal” rates of 10–50 percent.

Vietnam-USA trade relations
Vietnam and the United States normalised diplomatic relations in 1995, paving the way for a rapid expansion in bilateral trade and investment.
The two countries signed the Bilateral Trade Agreement in 2000, followed by Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organization in 2007, which significantly deepened market access.
The United States is now one of Vietnam’s largest export destinations.
Cooperation has broadened to include energy, technology, and supply-chain development.
