Vietnam’s plastics industry
Vietnam’s plastics industry is a rapidly expanding manufacturing sector anchored in packaging, construction, consumer goods and engineering-grade applications.
It benefits from strong foreign direct investment, low labour costs and Vietnam’s strategic position as part of regional supply chains.
Nevertheless, the industry remains heavily reliant on imported raw materials such as plastic resins and petrochemical feedstocks, and faces rising pressure from environmental regulations and global shifts toward circular economy models.
Vietnam is thus emerging as a regional plastics hub with growth potential in value-added segments, while also confronting structural constraints on feedstock input, technological upgrading and sustainability compliance.
