ToggleIn October, Vietnam imported US$87 million worth of goods from UK, up 3.18 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$802 million worth of goods from UK.
Vietnam’s biggest import from UK in value terms was machine, equipment, tools and instruments, worth US$29.80 million. This was up 12.81 percent over September. It brings the total imported so far this year to US$247.94 million.
Pharmaceutical products were also popular imports from UK, totalling US$11.04 million, rising 31.97 percent over September. Cumulative imports now stand at US$75.34 million.
Plastic products also featured prominently, accounting for US$7.41 million worth of imports from UK, an increase of 37.13 percent versus September. Total imports so far this year are sitting at US$56.24 million.
Imports of fishery products from UK round out the top five, valued at US$3.91 million.

Vietnam trade with UK
In October, Vietnam imported goods worth US$87.35 million from UK and exported US$823.18 million, bringing total trade to US$910.54 million and resulting in a trade surplus of US$735.83 million.
Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and UK has reached US$7847.34 million, with Vietnam importing US$802.35 million worth of goods and exporting US$7,044.99 million.

Vietjet signs airbus contract
In late October, it was reported that Vietjet had signed a contract at the UK Foreign Office to purchase 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft from Airbus Commercial.
This was during an official visit to the UK by General Secretary To Lam, marking the upgrade of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
UK-Vietnam energy cooperation
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office signed an MOU in London on 30 October to cooperate on green energy and power grid development.
The agreement, witnessed by General Secretary To Lam, forms part of Vietnam’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and focuses on applying the UK’s expertise in clean power transmission, HVDC technology, and offshore wind.

Vietnam-UK trade relations
Vietnam and the United Kingdom have built a strong trade relationship grounded in long term economic ties and expanding commercial cooperation.
The UK Vietnam Free Trade Agreement preserves the market access benefits of the earlier EU agreement, reducing tariffs and supporting trade in textiles, electronics, agriculture and services.
Bilateral trade has increased as UK firms deepen investment in finance, education, renewable energy and consumer goods, while Vietnamese exporters gain greater access to the UK market.
Ongoing collaboration in digital economy, clean energy and supply chain resilience reflects the broader strategic partnership between the two countries.
