Iron and steel products imports into Vietnam, up 0.34 percent in October, China and South Korea top suppliers

Vietnam imported iron and steel products to the tune of US$731 million in October, up 0.34 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year to date, Vietnam had imported US$6,668 million worth of iron and steel products by the end of October.

In October, Vietnam’s top supplier of iron and steel products was China, accounting for US$534 million worth. This was down 1.18 percent over September. Year to date, China has shipped US$4,830 million worth of iron and steel products to Vietnam.

After China, South Korea was the next biggest supplier. It shipped US$58 million worth of iron and steel products to Vietnam in October, a fall of 5.11 percent. Its total for the year to date is now sitting at US$605 million.

Japan was also a major supplier, shipping US$45 million worth of iron and steel products to Vietnam in October. This was a fall of 15.62 percent, for a total of US$377 million for the year.

Rounding out the top five was Taiwan with US$17 million, a 1.27 percent change month-on-month, for a total of US$160 million for the year, and Thailand with US$13 million, a 0.97 percent change for a total of US$128 million.

Hoa Phat Group is one of Vietnam’s largest industrial conglomerates, primarily engaged in iron and steel production, including construction steel, hot-rolled coil, pipes, and galvanized sheets.

HPG closed at VND 27,300 on Monday up 0.4 percent with 321,583,000 shares traded, worth VND 875,379 million.

Foreign ownership in HPG is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 19.1 percent.

VNSTEEL – Ho Chi Minh City Metal Corporation

VNSTEEL – Ho Chi Minh City Metal CorporationC (HMC) trades and distributes steel and non-ferrous metals for industrial and construction use.

HMC closed at VND 11,700 on Monday up 0.05 percent with 77,000 shares traded, worth VND 90 million.

Foreign ownership in HMC is currently capped at 49.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 0.4 percent.

Tien Len Steel Corporation

Tien Len Steel Corporation (TLH) manufactures and trades steel pipes, sheets, and construction materials.

TLH closed at VND 5,230 on Monday up 0.05 percent with 1,804,000 shares traded, worth VND 938 million.

Foreign ownership in TLH is currently capped at 0.0 percent, with current foreign ownership sitting at 0.0 percent.

Son Ha Group JSC

Son Ha Group JSC (SHA) manufactures stainless steel water tanks, pipes, and household appliances.

SHA closed at VND 4,030 on Monday down 0.06 percent with 70,000 shares traded, worth VND 29 million.
