Housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction prices in Vietnam up 6.87 percent year-on-year in September

Vietnam’s housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction consumer price index (CPI) fell 0.12 percent month-on-month in September 2025 after a 0.08 percent decline in August, according to Vietnam’s National Statistics Office.

On a year-on-year basis, prices rose 6.87 percent, down from 6.99 percent in August and 7.07 percent in July, showing a mild easing of inflation across essential utilities and construction materials.

The 0.41 percent rise in subcategory costs was mainly driven by higher household expenses, the NSO said.

House rental prices increased 0.28 percent due to higher demand in several localities at the start of the new school year.

Household electricity prices rose 0.30 percent and water prices climbed 0.27 percent as hot weather boosted consumption.

Prices of housing maintenance materials went up 0.52 percent, reflecting higher costs of bricks, sand, and stones amid tight supply and increased production expenses for coal, electricity, and transport.

Gas prices rose 0.35 percent following domestic adjustments in line with global gas prices from 1 September 2025, while kerosene prices increased 0.67 percent due to within-month price changes.

Other inflation data

Of note, Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) overall rose 0.42 percent in September 2025 compared to August, led by higher tuition fees, food prices, and housing maintenance costs.

The CPI was 2.61 percent higher than in December 2024 and up 3.38 percent year-on-year.

Food and food services

Food and food services inflation eased to 2.06 percent in September from 2.58 percent in August and 2.92 percent in July, continuing a downward trend from April’s 4.09 percent.

Drinks and tobacco

Vietnam’s drinks and tobacco consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.12 percent in September 2025 from the previous month, driven by higher consumer demand during the summer and the Vu Lan Festival, alongside increased production costs.

Overall, the drinks and tobacco group CPI stood at 2.35 percent in September, up from 2.25 percent in August, reflecting stable but firm price growth throughout 2025.

Garments, hats, shoes

Vietnam’s garment, hat, and footwear consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.41 percent in September 2025 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office (NSO).

This marks a slight easing from 1.49 percent in August, continuing a stable trend since early 2025.
