Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.42 percent in September 2025 compared to August, led by higher tuition fees, food prices, and housing maintenance costs, according to the National Statistics Office → view source.
The CPI was 2.61 percent higher than in December 2024 and up 3.38 percent year-on-year.

Average CPI growth in the third quarter was 3.27 percent from a year earlier, while core inflation rose 3.19 percent year-on-year for the January–September period.
Ten out of eleven commodity and service groups recorded price increases in September, with education posting the sharpest rise of 2.22 percent due to tuition adjustments for the 2025–2026 school year.
Housing, electricity, water, and construction materials increased 0.41 percent amid strong construction demand and higher input costs.
Food and beverage services rose 0.41 percent, while transport prices climbed 0.58 percent following fuel price adjustments.
Jewellery and personal service costs pushed up the “other goods and services” category by 0.22 percent, reflecting higher gold prices.
Beverage and tobacco prices grew 0.12 percent, household equipment 0.10 percent, garments and footwear 0.07 percent, and communications 0.04 percent.
Only culture, entertainment, and tourism costs declined, down 0.13 percent as travel companies offered discounts to attract customers after the summer season.
For the first nine months of 2025, average CPI rose 3.27 percent year-on-year.
The main upward drivers were higher housing and utility costs (+6.14 percent), food and catering (+3.30 percent), and medical services (+13.48 percent).
Tuition increases also contributed to inflation, though at a slower pace than in previous years.
Meanwhile, lower transport prices (down 2.90 percent) — mainly from a 10.63 percent fall in petrol — and a 0.47 percent drop in telecommunications costs helped contain inflationary pressure.
Core inflation in September rose 0.20 percent month-on-month and 3.18 percent year-on-year, remaining slightly below the overall CPI increase.
