Germany buys US$928 million of Vietnam’s exports in December, up 14.84 percent month-on-month

In December, Vietnam exported US$928 million worth of goods to Germany, up 14.84 percent over November, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

So far this year, Vietnam has exported US$9,533 million worth of goods to Germany.

Vietnam exported US$167.18 million worth of coffee to Germany in December. This was up from US$70.76 million in November, a change of 136.28 percent.

It also exported US$133.04 million worth of computers, electrical products, and spare-parts to Germany in December. This was down from US$167.50 million in November, a change of -20.57 percent.

Adding to that, Vietnam exported US$127.85 million worth of machines, equipment, tools and instruments to Germany in December. This was up from US$116.26 million in November, a change of 9.97 percent.

It also exported US$79.83 million worth of textiles and garments to Germany in December. This was down from US$86.40 million in November, a change of -7.61 percent.

Vietnam also exported US$70.76 million worth of footwear to Germany in December. This was up from US$65.56 million in November, a change of 7.94 percent.

Vietnam trade with Germany

In December, Vietnam imported US$455.12 million worth of goods from Germany and exported US$928.27 million to Germany, for total trade worth US$1,383.39 million, and leaving a trade surplus of US$473.15 million.

Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Germany has reached US$13,666 million, with Vietnam importing US$4,133 million worth of goods and exporting US$9,533 million worth of goods.

Recent developments involving the two countries include:

Arrest warrant journalist Germany

Vietnamese journalist Le Trung Khoa, currently based out of Germany, has been placed on a national wanted list for allegedly making, storing or disseminating information, documents or items against the State of Vietnam.

Investigators from the Ministry of Public Security have charged the 1971-born Vietnamese citizen under Article 117(2) of the Penal Code.

Police have called on him to surrender to receive leniency under the law.

Vietnam-Germany trade relations

Vietnam and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1975, laying the foundation for long-term political and economic cooperation.

Trade ties expanded steadily after Vietnam’s economic reforms, with Germany becoming Vietnam’s largest trading partner within the European Union.

Bilateral trade is underpinned by the European Union–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, which reduced tariffs and improved market access for goods and services.
