Vietnam-China trade relations
Vietnam and China established diplomatic relations in the 1950s, laying the foundation for long-standing economic and trade ties that have expanded alongside broader regional integration.
Bilateral trade accelerated after Vietnam’s economic reforms and deepened following China’s accession to the World Trade Organization, with both sides becoming major trading partners.
Trade relations are framed by multilateral and regional agreements, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations–China Free Trade Area and commitments under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
These frameworks have supported rapid growth in cross-border trade, positioning China as Vietnam’s largest trading partner while Vietnam has emerged as one of China’s key partners in Southeast Asia.
