Vietnam’s pepper exports fell by 9.86 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$87.54 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Vietnam’s imports of animal and vegetable fats and oils fell by 30.78 percent month-on-month in January to US$98.43 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$142.20 million recorded in December.
Scrap recycling industry in Vietnam sees strong growth despite January decline
Vietnam’s scrap recycling industry recorded a 202.4 percent increase in January compared to the 2019 baseline, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index. However, output declined from December 2024, when production was 279.0 percent above 2019 levels.
Transport and warehouse sector in Vietnam records US$38.66 million in January FDI
In January, Vietnam’s transport and warehouse sector registered a total of US$38.66 million in new foreign direct investment (FDI) across four new projects, according to data from Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment. This represents an increase of US$13.2 million compared to December, which saw US$25.5 million in registered capital. However, the number of new projects declined from 13 in December.

Prices for garments, hats, and footwear in Vietnam increased by 0.38 percent in January, with other garments seeing the highest rise at 0.65 percent, according to the Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index.
Vietnam’s imports of liquefied petroleum gases rise 12.98 percent in January
Vietnam’s imports of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) increased by 12.98 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$155.97 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows an increase from US$138.05 million recorded in December.
Buy More, Sell Less: Tackling Vietnam’s Trade Surplus with the US
Vietnam has been repeatedly singled out by US officials with respect to its trade surplus with the United States. This hasn’t, so far, seen any targeted trade implications for Vietnam (i.e. tariffs) from the US administration, but it is increasingly looking like it is only a matter of time. With this in mind, this article looks at how Vietnam might address the trade imbalance by buying more US goods, and/or reducing its exports to the US.
African tourist arrivals in Vietnam rise in January but decline year-on-year
Vietnam recorded 5,035 tourist arrivals from Africa in January, representing 0.2 percent of total international visitors, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This figure marks a 29.4 percent increase compared to December but reflects a 2.2 percent decline year-on-year.
