Vietnam’s imports of animal and vegetable fats and oils fell by 30.78 percent month-on-month in January to US$98.43 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$142.20 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of this category amounted to US$98.43 million. Indonesia remained the leading supplier with US$53.69 million in imports, accounting for 54.55 percent of the total. Malaysia followed with US$27.37 million, representing 27.80 percent, while Thailand supplied US$4 million.
Among Vietnam’s key suppliers, China recorded the most significant growth, with imports rising 101.38 percent month-on-month. In contrast, Malaysia experienced the steepest decline, falling 39.01 percent. Imports from Thailand also dropped by 36.05 percent.
The industry continues to be dominated by Indonesia and Malaysia, reflecting their strong position in the global market. China’s sharp increase signals growing diversification in Vietnam’s sourcing strategy.
