African tourist arrivals in Vietnam rise in January but decline year-on-year

Vietnam recorded 5,035 tourist arrivals from Africa in January, representing 0.2 percent of total international visitors, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This figure marks a 29.4 percent increase compared to December but reflects a 2.2 percent decline year-on-year.

Despite the month-on-month growth, the slight year-on-year drop suggests fluctuating demand among African travelers to Vietnam. The country continues to attract visitors from Africa with its rich cultural heritage, business opportunities, and increasing air connectivity. Key destinations include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and popular coastal areas.

Vietnam’s tourism industry has been working to expand its reach into emerging markets, including Africa, through targeted promotions and enhanced flight routes. With further improvements in accessibility and marketing, arrivals from Africa could see stronger gains in the coming months.
