Vietnam’s imports of cotton declined by 3.23 percent month-on-month in January to US$225.83 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decrease from US$233.38 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total cotton imports stood at US$225.83 million. Brazil remained the largest supplier, contributing US$109.76 million, or 48.61 percent of the total. The USA followed with US$41.78 million, representing 18.50 percent, while Australia supplied US$36.71 million.
Among major suppliers, the USA recorded the highest month-on-month growth, rising 45.75 percent. In contrast, Argentina saw the steepest decline, with imports falling 53.23 percent. Ivory Coast and South Korea also posted significant drops of 46.26 percent and 46.65 percent, respectively.
The industry continues to rely heavily on Brazil and the USA, which together accounted for over two-thirds of Vietnam’s cotton imports. The sharp increase in imports from the USA signals growing demand, while the decline from Argentina and Australia reflects shifting sourcing strategies.
