EU US$606m VN investment clean energy / transport

The Brussels Times is reporting that the European Union will invest more than €560 million (US$606 million) in Vietnam across sustainable transport and clean energy projects.

The package includes a €40 million (US$43 million) Sustainable Transport Facility supporting rail, inland waterways, and urban mobility, linked to the Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City high-speed rail.

Separately, a €200 million (US$217 million) deal with Techcombank will finance private-sector clean energy, alongside smaller programmes for forests, skills training, and energy transition.

EU warning on China 5G development VN

Reuters is reporting that the European Union has warned that Chinese involvement in Vietnam’s 5G network could deter foreign investment due to data security concerns.

European Commissioner Jozef Sikela said concerns over data security could discourage investors, while Vietnamese officials have defended Chinese equipment as reliable and cost-effective, the article notes.

Fake news fine hike

Phap Luat Phat Trien is reporting that Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security has proposed fines of VND 20 million to VND 30 million (about US$760 to US$1,140) for individuals who spread false information online.

Fines of VND 10 million to VND 20 million (about US$380 to US$760) would apply to individuals sharing false information, with fines of VND 30 million to VND 50 million (about US$1,140 to US$1,900) proposed for organisations.

Building design competitions increasing apartment costs

Thanh Nien is reporting that regulations on architectural design competitions are being criticised for adding costs and delays that are being passed on to consumers and contributing to higher apartment prices.

Refinery operations

Vietnamnet is reporting that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has said Vietnam’s Dung Quat refinery has increased output by about 10.5 percent, with sufficient feedstock to maintain production until early May.

It has also said that the Nghi Son refinery is still in operation with enough input supply to maintain production through the end of April, although its feedstock has been affected.

Xanh GSM entry strategy Philippines

Phap Luat Phat Trien is reporting that Green Xentro will deploy 2,500 electric taxis in the Philippines under the Green GSM platform, starting with an initial rollout in Rizal province.

The project expands a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2025, increasing the planned fleet from 2,000 to 2,500 vehicles.

Green Xentro will manage local operations and drivers, while Green GSM provides vehicles, technology, and service standards.

Environment tax cut proposal

Dau Tu Kien Thuc is reporting that the Ministry of Finance has proposed cutting the environmental protection tax on petrol and oil by about half to help reduce domestic fuel prices.

Authorities say reducing the tax could lower retail fuel prices by around VND 1,000 to VND 2,000 per litre (about US$38 to US$76 per 1,000 litres).

The proposal would require approval from the National Assembly Standing Committee, which sets environmental tax rates on fuel.

Fuel price increase

Dau Tu Kien Thuc is reporting that fuel price caps in Vietnam were adjusted upwards yesterday, with RON 95-III reaching VND 33,840 per litre (about US$1.28), up roughly VND 3,150.

E5 RON 92 rose to about VND 30,110 per litre (about US$1.14), while diesel increased to around VND 39,660 per litre (about US$1.50).

The adjustment reflects rising global oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East.

Green consumption

VnExpress is reporting that a survey by the Business Association of High Quality Vietnamese Goods across four cities found that about 80 percent of consumers understand green consumption, but only 20 percent use green products regularly.

It also found that only about 86 percent of consumers are willing to pay a premium of 5 to 10 percent for green or organic products.

Supercar convoy in HCMC

Dau Tu Kien Thuc is reporting that a convoy of nearly 20 supercars from Dang Le Nguyen Vu’s collection appeared in Ho Chi Minh City, drawing large crowds and public attention.
