Vietnam’s milk industry

Vietnam’s milk industry has expanded steadily over the past decade, driven by rising incomes, urbanisation, and shifting consumer preferences toward packaged dairy products.

Domestic production remains limited relative to demand, with local farms constrained by land, climate, and feed costs, leading to continued reliance on imported milk powder and inputs.

The market is dominated by a small number of large domestic and foreign-invested firms, with strong competition across fresh milk, powdered milk, and value-added dairy segments.

Growth is increasingly concentrated in higher-margin products such as flavoured milk, yoghurt, and nutritional formulas, supported by branding and distribution advantages.
