Vietnam’s natural gas industry
Vietnam’s gas industry plays an important role in the country’s energy system, supplying fuel for power generation, fertiliser production and industrial use.
Domestic gas production is concentrated offshore in fields such as Nam Con Son, Cuu Long and Malay–Tho Chu basins, with gas transported to shore through an expanding pipeline network.
State-owned PetroVietnam and its subsidiaries dominate exploration, production and distribution, often working with international partners in offshore projects.
Vietnam is also developing liquefied natural gas import terminals and gas-fired power plants as part of its strategy to meet rising electricity demand and diversify energy supply.
