Vietnam-Japan trade relations
Vietnam and Japan have built a long-standing trade relationship rooted in post-war economic cooperation and Japan’s role as an early development and investment partner in Vietnam.
Bilateral trade expanded significantly after the Vietnam–Japan Economic Partnership Agreement entered into force in 2009, reducing tariffs and improving market access for goods and services.
Trade ties were further strengthened through Japan’s participation in regional agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, supporting deeper supply-chain integration.
Today, Japan remains one of Vietnam’s largest trading partners and investors, with stable cooperation across manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, and technology between Japan and Vietnam.
